Age-related macular degeneration increases with aging.
Risk factors are age, familiarity, smoking, hypertension.
Two forms of AMD can be diagnosed:

  • atrophic or dry maculopathy
  • exudative or wet maculopathy

Patient with maculopathy in one eye must be monitored because the same pathology can occur in the other eye.
With OCT we can both diagnose maculopathy and identify any complication.
Medical therapy, laser, photodynamic therapy and intravitreal injections are available for therapy.
Diagnosis of maculopathy is done with eye examination, fundus examination in mydriasis and OCT of macular region.
